World-known 138 meters deep abyss with the subterranean river-basin of Punkva on the bottom. Abyss Macocha is one of the most famous karst’s phenomenons in Czech Republic. Since 1914 it has been an indivisible part of Punkevni jeskyne (caves) opened for public. The gorge itself arised by breaking a thin arch of a huge subterranean dome crossed by the Punkva river.
We can reach the bottom via opened Punkevni caves. Two viewing platforms enable to enjoy a view of gorge’s depth. In 1882 the upper foot bridge has been built by Brno’s branch of Austrian tourist club.The lower bridge has arised in 1899. There is a chair-lift which leads from Punkevni jeskyne to the upper edge of the gorge where a hotel and a car park are. You can also buy the tickets to Punkevni and Katerinske jeskyne (caves).
